There’s no ties in football

What does the NBA, NHL, MLB, and College Football all have in common? Games can’t end in a tie!

It’s illogical that an NFL game can end in a tie.

There’s plenty of options to chose from to determine the outcome of a game in the event of a tie score at the end of regulation. Each team gets the ball at the 50. Keep the OT rules the same as they are now, but play until someone wins. I don’t care, just determine a winner and a loser!

Make a call on the DH rule MLB

What if NBA games played in an Eastern Conference stadium used a 3-point line, but games played in a Western Conference stadium didn’t? What if NFL games played in an AFC stadium had the option of a 2-point conversion, but games played in a NFC stadium didn’t? I trust you would say, that’s ridiculous! Because it is.

What if MLB games played in an American League stadium had the option of using a Designated Hitter, but games played in a National League stadium didn’t? I trust you would say, that’s ridiculous! Because it is.

It’s illogical that MLB continues to play by 2 sets of rules. I completely understand that not everyone agrees on whether or not MLB should have a DH or not, but it’s a decision  that needs to be made one way or the other. Every decision that’s ever been made in the history of sports, that’s brought about change, has divided people initially. There’s got to be someone in MLB that has the courage and leadership to make the tough call and make a decision on this matter.

Because change is hard, and no one wants to be the bad guy, is no excuse for continuing to be illogical. MLB, do the right thing and make a call on the DH rule.

2 Game NFL Preseason Please

Dear National Football League,

Can we please stop with the ridiculous 4 game preseason schedule? You and I both know preseason should consist of 2 games. For the love of anyone that remotely cares about the NFL, immediately make the change.

I know you’ll attempt to make some lame excuses for why you still play 4 preseason games, so let’s take a look at those.

  1. NFL teams need 4 games to evaluate players to determine who should be on the roster.

Seriously! Are you trying to suggest NFL coaches and front office staff are that poor at evaluating talent. Nobody’s buying that. Before the preseason starts NFL teams know exactly what 85% of the roster will look like. They only need to decide on a handful of back up positions. This can easily be done in 2 games and a few practices.

2.  Players need to work themselves into playing condition.

You mean the same players that work out 365 days a year with the best trainers money can buy. Okay!

3.  Teams need to work out the kinks and get the timing down, so we can put the best product on the field week 1.

Nice try! Teams work on this during the off season and in practice. Most starters hardly play in the preseason.

I know what you’re thinking. Everybody knows the NFL plays 4 preseason games because they’re greedy. Reminder, this blogs only speaks to what’s logical.

The Journey Begins

Sometimes logic seems to be missing from the world of sports. When I ponder why, I’m left with the conclusion, it must be because of greed or narcissism.

I’ll unveil my logical ideas surrounding the world of sports via this blog. I’m well aware some of my posts may be viewed as unconventional, but they will be logical. As you read my posts, don’t let tradition or fear of change cloud your thinking.

Remember, the truth is not always popular, but it does correspond to reality. Let the logical sports ideas begin.

Oh yeah, the left side of the brain is said to be the logical side, so I’ll be the left brain sports guy!
